It’s that time of year again. Free agency is upon us. I mean, who would of thought KG would be going back to the Timberwolves? It looks like there may be another free agent coming up real soon in the form of Drake. Drake just dropped his “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late” mixtape. Even with Drake himself calling it a mixtape many have speculated this is actually an album and if so, that means Drizzy is a free agent. According HipHopDX, Kyle “KP” Reilly of DatPiff said, “IYRTITL” will count as an official album under Cash Money. If your up your your contract game that means Drake has fulfilled his 4-album obligation Young Money and is free to throw up the deuces. Originally we were in talks to release it for free and have DJ Drama host and even make it an official Gangsta Grillz. However the label was not in favor of that and they struck an agreement to release the project the retail route and it would count towards one of his albums.” Reilly continued, “It was a mutual decision since he wanted to give it away. They (the label) said, ‘Hell no,’ not in those words, so they ‘agreed’ to do it this way as a middle ground and it would count towards his Cash Money deal album total. The label had zero input or creative control over “If You’re Reading This Its Too Late.”
When it rains it pours, and this couldn’t have come at a worse time for Cash Money/Young Money with Lil Wayne suing, Turk suing and Jas Prince firing off another lawsuit, it seems like the once mighty “CMB Army” is on the ropes.
Drake’s surprise “IYRTITL” album sold 535,000 copies within the first weekend of release.
